Walking Around Inside

We went back to the build site this morning so that we could walk around inside. They are really making great progress.

This first photo is from the third bedroom.

This is another view of the third bedroom.

This next photo is of the great room, looking towards the front of the house.

We're not really sure where the beams will be going.

But, the beams are huge.

I was surprised by how wide the sliding glass door is.

Another view of the great room looking towards the front of the house.

And, another...

The master bedroom has the wide sliding windows as well.

Ah, nice.  Frosted windows above the bath tub.

We Have Windows

I stopped by to get some progress photos.

The windows are being installed.   I didn't go inside because they were still working on it for the day, but I did slog through the mud to get some angles I don't normally get.

Here is the customary driveway photo.

This is the front entry. There is one window left in the garage, and I bet it fits horizontally over the windows on the right. Those windows are where the dining room will be.   The small window to the left will be in the powder room.

This photo shows the side door into the garage. The roof line is definitely a bit different than most.

This next photo shows where the home office will be.

And, I couldn't resist taking this photo through the house.

This is the southwest corner of the house.

Looks like only one window left to install

One last photo for good measure.

More Progress

Geff stopped by the build tonight and got some updated photos.

Here is the view from the driveway. There's more progress on the front of the house. It looks like they are working on the front entrance.

It looks like the windows and sliding glass doors have arrived.

The back is more complete, and we have a chimney!

Sunday Walk Through

The construction crew has been busy. The rafters are up, and most of the roof is on. Most of outside has been covered by inch thick weather-proof siding, and the inside walls have all been roughed in. We heard Friday from the builder that the house will be weather tight by Tuesday.

The builder and one of his crew were over to look at the front door that we salvaged from the old house. Both Geff and I really liked the idea of using the old front door on our new house.  It is a great, solid mission-style door.  Fortunately, after seeing it, the builder is on board with using it as well.  The opening is much larger than the door itself, but they will build out windows around it.

During the walkthrough today, Geff took a video while I took stills.

Here is the standard photo from the driveway.

View from the driveway

The garage area is basically about the size of the old house, and it sits roughly in the same foot print.  It is the great room and master bedroom/home office space that extends the house much further to the west than the old house.

This next view is from the east side of the property, looking into the garage.

The east side of the house

Geff was just starting his video when I took this photo.  If you look closely at the back of the garage, there is a board on the right that is used to walk up into the house.  When the house and garage is complete, a ramp will be in that location to make the house wheelchair accessible.  There will also be a storage room straight back from the garage door.

The front yard doesn't look like much today, but it will be a decent size. The city has stipulated that we add five trees to the front yard, so in addition to a sidewalk, we'll have five trees, grass, and either flowers or vegetables, or a mixture of both.

The front yard

While I took close to 40 photos, I'm trying to limit the number of photos that I actually post, so skipping the ones of the basement opening, and the bedrooms, which were roughed out the last time I posted.  I do have to post another one of the laundry room, though.  The last time we walked through the house, I thought that the laundry room might feel a little small, but standing in it today, this room is plenty big, especially considering that our last laundry room was in a closet.

Laundry room

I was standing in the back of the room, roughly in the space where the washer and dryer will be. There will be cabinets and a farmhouse style sink on the right side.   The sink will be part laundry, part craft clean up, and part dog wash.

The second bathroom is also larger than I thought, which makes sense since it will be wheelchair accessible.

Next up is one of the areas that I am really looking forward to: the pantry.

The pantry

The pantry will have shelving on the left wall, and we will have our stand up freezer in the back corner of the room.

The center part of the house will be the great room: kitchen, dining room, and living room.

Looking north from the dining room area

When you walk in the front door, the dining table will be on your right, and the kitchen will be beyond that, also on the right.   The left side will be the living room area.  And, a sliding glass door will provide access to the deck.

The powder room is near the front door.

The home office is in the front of the house.

The master bedroom feels huge.

Woah! This Looks Far Larger Than It Did On Paper

Geff sent a photo yesterday that I didn't have a chance to post, but we stopped over there tonight and he took a lot more photos, while I got quickly chilled and headed for the car.

When we pulled up, the first thing we noticed was obviously the huge truck in the driveway.

The garage is now sided and the roof rafters are up:

And, this is the view that makes the house look really large (at least to me).  It is the north view of the house (the back side of the house).  The second bathroom and third bedroom are on the left.  The kitchen and living room are in the center, and the master bedroom is on the right:

The Turf Makes a Huge Difference

I'm finally caught up on older posts.  I took this photo this morning, just after the front lawn had been put in.  I'm loving it.
